6 Tips on How to Organically Grow Your Instagram Following.
Here are some tips on how to grow your Instagram following without having to ask people to follow you back.
Make a brand and be consistent.
Don’t just splatter photos on your Instagram account that people don’t care about or can’t relate to. Post something consistent either in style, subject, or pick a theme so people will get a clear incentive from following you. People follow those that interest them so give them something to expect, and give details when you’ll be posting. Then keep at it – make sure you post several times a week and plan a content schedule.
TIP: Add Accounts is there to use. You can have a personal account and a professional account for targeted posts. To navigate and switch accounts easier you can use the Add Accounts option.
Hashtags are key.
Use hashtags to make new posts visible on IG. Don’t make it out of thin air. You can look up what’s the latest and relevant hashtag to your post that people use. Instagram allows up to 30 hashtags per post so go and add as many as you can. Check out Websta-Top 100 Popular Hashtag to have a higher chance of gaining likes for your content. But don’t just choose by rank. Think of using the most relevant hashtag to avoid spam comments. You can also find hashtags in leading and popular accounts, and if you’re lucky, they may even offer hashtags you can use to be featured in their accounts.
TIP: You can reuse a hashtag as long as it’s relevant to the post and try saving a copy of hashtags you often use to save time from typing them again and again.
It’s a give and take relationship you have with Instagram. Interact with other Instagrammers, followers, and new people you discover by liking or even commenting on their posts.
Make friends by attending InstaMeets and Meetups.
The best way to grow your Instagram following organically is having a lot of friends, or maybe someone you know and knows you is enough. Broaden your circle by attending Meetups with people that have a similar theme or post you have. It’s great that Instagram has a section where you can attend or coordinate your own InstaMeets.
Link accounts and cross-post to other platforms.
Get more people to see your posts by cross-publishing to other social media accounts you have. You can do that by linking other accounts to your Instagram account. You can also add it as a widget on your blog or website by embedding plugins. For example, WordPress has Instagram embed plugins. Or you can put it in your email signature by using WiseStamp and other similar tools. Just make sure you post pictures you’re okay for everyone to see.
Try the newest features.
Some new Instagram features may not stick around or really don’t work well with you, but you can try to see if it works with your account. Here are the newest IG features as of this writing:
A Snapchat type video posted for a limited time. Some brands use this to post behind-the-scene shots or you can use it for non-permanent worthy photos you have.
Instead of displaying a collage of photos, it lets you post a slideshow of up to 10 photos which gives a chance to tell stories without having a hard time picking a single photo.
TIP: Enable Instagram Business Profile
It’s a new feature where you have to link your Facebook account first if you haven’t yet. Business profile has enhanced features for a better Instagram strategy such as:
- Adding custom buttons to your Instagram profile, which allows visitors to directly go to your website, call you, or find directions to your location.
- Get Insights or stats on your most popular Instagram posts, total impressions, and basic demographics about your followers.
Growing your Instagram following doesn’t happen overnight and organically takes time and effort. Goodluck!
