by Chico Orange
We’re not just designing your website, we’re developing a comprehensive digital strategy.
Our process is designed to transform your organization online. A website or application project is a complex mix of art, advertising, message, branding, technology, and teamwork. Our project process is designed to deliver the best possible solution while making your experience as seamless as it is transparent.
At Citrus, we consider your input vital to our creative process. With a teamwork/community approach, we’ll create a shared vision that acts as our beacon throughout your website design project. Our most creative work comes from merging your expertise with ours.
From brainstorming to launch, we’ll guide you through each step of our process. Whether this is your first web design project, or you’re a seasoned veteran, this outline will give you an idea of what to expect as we move through the stages of production.
“GOOD DESIGN IS GOOD BUSINESS.”
Designing and developing a website is a complex, many-faceted process. From gathering information, through design and development, to maintenance, each step is as important as the next. While the exact process will vary from designer to designer, we have broken it down into five basic steps (download infographic):
- The Big Picture
- The Nitty-Gritty
- The Art & Craft
- The Nuts & Bolts
- The Finishing Touches
The Big Picture
Sometimes called “discovery,” “information gathering,” or “research phase,” this important step focuses on you, your brand, and your business. It should include lots of questions about your goals, your audience, your style and taste, and your vision. Poorly conducted discovery can negatively affect each of the remaining steps, so it’s important to take the time to be thorough.
Here is where we really get down to business. It’s time to put a detailed plan together, to begin conceptualizing all of the information that was collected in step one. This includes the development of a creative brief, a sitemap, and/or a wireframe of the website.
The Art & Craft
For a graphic designer, this is the fun part! Writing website copy (often handled by the website owner rather than professional copywriter), creating layouts, designing page mockups – this is where your site can really stand out. Content is king, and good design is the crown that differentiates the king from his subjects. Many a site has failed simply because it was unappealing or difficult to navigate, and hiring an experienced website designer can prevent that.
The Nuts & Bolts
The “construction” phase of the process. At Citrus, this is where your custom WordPress website is developed, pages added and styled, functionality built in. Your website should be reviewed and tested extensively on a variety of browsers and devices.
The Finishing Touches
Voila! You have a smashing new website. Now what? Hopefully, your finishing touches include search engine optimization (after all, what good is a gorgeous site if no one can find it?), training on how to use your website dashboard, and set up of an ongoing maintenance plan.
While each of these steps has about a bazillion (pretty sure that’s a real thing) tasks and sub-tasks associated with it, these five primary phases guide the process.
